Hailstorm takes its toll

After a large part of Calgary was pelted with golf ball-size hail Monday, insurance brokers may be facing a storm of calls.

Calgarian DJ Kelly said his wife took the car to work at the University of Calgary and after returning from a meeting downtown, she came back to find the car smashed up.

“The entire back window is entirely shattered and isn’t even in the car anymore,” said Kelly.

“The back window is actually sitting in the back seat.”

Along with the shattered window, Kelly said the car has dents on the hood, roof and trunk, and the windshield and back taillight are both cracked. Yesterday, he put a call in to his insurance company and is waiting for his car to be assessed.

Doug Noble, vice-president of the Alberta and North region for the Insurance Bureau of Canada, said it’s too early to know the extent of the damage done in Calgary.
