Halifax celebrates Sid’s victory

Sidney Crosby has given hometown fans many reasons to cheer. But yesterday’s heroics by the Cole Harbour superstar no doubt blows the roof off other magical moments.

From downtown Halifax streets packed with celebratory fans, to people belting out our national anthem in local drinking establishments, Haligonians were a proud lot last night — made even more so with the fact it was Sid The Kid himself who scored the golden goal for Canada in its win over the United States.

“We went wild,” admitted waitress Michelle Carbotte, who watched with about 300 patrons at the Big League’s sports bar in Cole Harbour.

Even Premier Darrell Dexter offered congratulations to Crosby.

“I want to congratulate Sidney once again for making Nova Scotia, and indeed Canada, proud,” he said in a release.
