Halifax’s Suzie Ketene placed second among female competitors and 39th of 69 overall in the Trans Portugal Garmin mountain-bike race after Sunday’s ninth stage completed in Sagres, Portugal.

The 42-year-old, finding her way using only a global-positioning system, posted a time of 63:52:50 on the 1,024-kilometre route, which climbs 24,500 metres from start to finish.

Ketene, a former winner of the Canada Cup mountain bike series, decided to race the Trans Portugal Garmin to raise money for charity.

She was one of eight Canadians in the event in a group that included former NHLer Trevor Linden.
