Halifax Rainmen fan favourite John Strickland dies

Long-time Halifax Rainmen fan favourite John Strickland has died. He was 38.

“I was devastated to hear that ‘Strick’ passed away,’” said Rainmen owner Andre Levingston in a press release. “He was a valuable asset to the team and an incredible friend to me. I want to extend my deepest sympathies to his family … We will all miss him very, very much.”

Strickland spent two seasons with the Rainmen and recently retired to take a job as the Rainmen’s director of basketball development.

A press release issued by the Rainmen said Strickland died in his sleep.

The six-foot-eight forward, a 15-year minor-pro veteran, averaged 6.9 points and 4.8 rebounds in 36 games with the Rainmen.
