Halifax will host one of five Canada Virgin music festivals this summer on Saturday, July 4, at the Garrison Grounds of Citadel Hill.
“We’re coming to Citadel Hill on the fourth of July. Everyone tells me that’s the sunniest, most beautiful day in Atlantic Canada,” festival director Andrew Bridge said optimistically.
Iconic Canadian band The Tragically Hip and skate punkers The Offspring will headline the one-day festival along with 15 to 20 other acts on two stages. Bridge said the concert would include a diverse range of international, national and local music requested online by Atlantic Canadians.
“There’s a big rock scene in Halifax so we decided to skew the lineup to be a little more rock-focused because that’s what fans told us they wanted,” Bridge said. “We also think rounding off the festival with some eclectic acts, some local acts, will really create some excitement.”
Three-time ECMA winner Hey Rosetta! from Newfoundland was the first Maritime band confirmed yesterday.
“We very much want to promote emerging artists,” Bridge said. “You’ll see things around the festival, around the weekend as well that we’ll do at local venues to promote local talent.”
On site, music fans will be able to get a tattoo, piercing, massage or haircut provided by local businesses. The concert is open to all ages.
In addition to KISS on the Halifax Common July 18, and a rumoured Paul McCartney show on the same site July 11, this Virgin Festival would be the first of three outdoor Saturday concerts in the city for July.
