Haligonian to play for Canada at CONCACAF championship

Halifax’s Molly Allen will represent defending champion Canada at the CONCACAF women’s under-20 soccer championship starting today in Ciudad, Guatemala.

Allen, an NCAA Division I sophomore defender at Virginia Commonwealth, cracked Canada’s 20-player roster earlier this month at a selection camp in Tampa, Fla.

Canada faces Costa Rica today. The top three finishers qualify for the U-20 World Cup in Germany in July.

In other news, Bedford defender Ante Jazic will play for Canada’s senior men’s team on Jan. 31 in a friendly in Jamaica.

Jazic plays for Major League Soccer’s Chivas USA.
