Hall and the Eskimos feeling the pressure

Richie Hall’s head could be the first to roll this season in the CFL.

Hall’s underachieving Eskimos are floundering through the early part of the year and the pressure is already mounting to make changes.

The 0-3 Eskies have yet to score a point in the fourth quarter through three games, have been outscored 29-0 in the last 15 minutes, and last week failed to hang onto a seven-point fourth-quarter lead against Saskatchewan. The 1965 season was the last time the Esks started a season 0-4.

The Esks, who also face the added pressure of hosting this year’s Grey Cup game, face the Bombers on Saturday.

Argos flying high
The Toronto Argos are breathing rarified air early in the 2010 campaign. For the first time since 2007, the Argos are in first place in the CFL East (tied with Montreal), and are converting some skeptics who wondered aloud if first-year CFL quarterback Cleo Lemon had the tools to win in Canada.?

Kicking around
There are no sure things in the CFL, but Ticats placekicker Sandro DeAngelis used to be as close as you could get to perfection. The most accurate kicker in CFL history through five seasons in Calgary, DeAngelis missed both of his field goal attempts last week and is just 4-of-8 this season. DeAngelis signed as a free agent, but now you have to wonder if the tricky winds of Ivor Wynne Stadium have gotten into his head. ?

Pierce injured
Winnipeg Blue Bombers starting quarterback Buck Pierce will miss Saturday’s game against the Edmonton Eskimos with a sprained right knee. With the oft-injured Pierce (he had been knocked out of seven of his previous 23 games) on the sidelines, Bombers backup Steven Jyles will guide the offence. ?

Rambo’s return?
The Calgary receiving corps should profit from the possible return of Ken-Yon Rambo on Saturday when the Stampeders host the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The CFL’s leading receiver in 2008 appears set to return from a serious knee injury suffered early last season.
