Halifax RCMP say a man who tried to rob a Beaver Back Road Petro-Canada early Thursday morning left empty handed when a store employee grabbed a hammer and told the suspect to get out.

Police say the armed robbery attempt took place at 4:40 a.m. when a lone male walked into the store and produced what was believed to be pepper spray. After being told to get out by the employee, the man immediately left the store.

The suspect is described as between the ages of 20 and 25, five-foot-eight, slim with dark facial hair and was sporting a yellow and black hoodie.
