Happy birthday Canada Line?

Today’s the one-year anniversary of the Canada Line, but whether it’s a happy birthday depends on to whom you talk.

Today’s the one-year anniversary of the Canada Line, but whether it’s a happy birthday depends on to whom you talk.

Some smaller businesses near the Broadway-City Hall Station complained they have yet to recover their customers and revenue.

“Business has been getting worse,” said Grace Ng of Cambie Café.

“The Canada Line hasn’t helped at all.”

Ady Aylon, of Café Express and Gelato, said most traffic bypasses the Cambie businesses when heading downtown.

However, Glen Gillis, general manager of Canadian Tire, has seen a “significant increase in sales” and credits the Canada Line for the success.

At Oakridge Shopping Centre, general manager Kathy Barr said there has been an increase in traffic and sales but noted that the addition of new stores has also helped.

Barr also said the Canada Line has brought in a new mixture of customers from Richmond and Downtown.
