Hard times translating to good times for grocery stores

With people looking more carefully at what they're spending their money on these days, many are cutting back on dining out.

With people looking more carefully at what they're spending their money on these days, many are cutting back on dining out.

That means parts of the grocery business are experiencing a bit of a boom.

"In the bulk department we've seen about a five percent increase", says Frank Sarro, purchasing manager for Community Natural Foods.

"You're looking for an expenditure to cut down on -- you cut down on going out, and then instead of going out, you go to the grocery store and pick up your own groceries" said University of Calgary economist Frank Atkins.
