CALGARY - A couple in southern Alberta had to keep their collective cool when their unborn daughter decided to enter the world on a busy Calgary street during the morning rush hour.
Kresten and Mirjam (MEER'-ee-uhm) Rasmussen of Langdon, east of the city, weren't expecting their fourth child until next week.
They had to jump in their minivan and head for a Calgary hospital after Mirjam went into labour Tuesday morning, but their baby decided to make her grand entrance on the side of Glenmore Trail.
Kresten says he only had enough time to pull over and catch the infant - named Augustina - as she was being born.
Emergency medical personnel say the harried father managed to stay calm and tied off her umbilical cord with a shoelace and swaddled her before an ambulance took mom and baby to hospital.
Mirjam hints they wouldn't mind having two more children, so long as they're not born in their van. (CHQR)
