Have a tailor fit your clothes to your body, advises Virginia

Virginia Madsen

Virginia Madsen, actress, co-starred in the films The Number 23 and The Astronaut Farmer. She was recently in Toronto for the launch of More magazine:

Q: What products that you use make you look and feel good?

A: A I exfoliate three times a week, use moisturizer and sunblock. I start from the inside and use common sense.

Q: Describe your style?

A: I have two different looks. I love to dress up in a gown and great pair of shoes and walk the red carpet. It’s the only glamorous part of my job.

The rest of the time it’s jeans and a T-shirt. I like the tailored look. My advice to women is: Don’t be a fashion victim. Have a tailor fit your clothes to your body. It will make a huge difference and make clothes look more expensive.

Q: How do you keep life in perspective?

A: I don’t take other people’s views of me personally. I don’t buy in to Hollywood. I see it as a business. My personal life comes first. I embrace my knowledge and experience

Q: How do you stay fit?

A: I need variety in my workout plans. I do Pilates, yoga, spinning and have a trainer. I go hiking with my son.

Q: What healthy eating habits do you follow?

A: By my taking care of myself I’m setting an example for my son. I eat healthy food. My splurge is classic pizza with cheese, pepperoni and a thin crust. For a special treat, he has a McDonald’s hamburger.

Arthur Mendonça

Arthur Mendonça, leading Canadian fashion designer:

Q: What products that you use make you look and feel good?

A: I love Kiehl’s products. They only use the finest ingredients. I use everything from their All Sports Everyday shampoo to Extra Strength Conditioning with coconut oil.

Q: Describe your style?

A: My fashion style is casual and comfortable. I wear clothes from Costume Nationale. They are fitted and tailored for my slim body type. As far as my design style, I design clothes for real women that make them look beautiful.

Q: How do you keep life in perspective?

A: My friends and my support team at work take the stress away from me so I can focus on design. At my desk, I am surrounded by cards from my foster child. Reading her thoughts keeps things in perspective.

I try to stay true to myself and make a difference where I can, taking each day at a time and being spontaneous as possible.

Q: How do you stay fit?

A: Meditation and yoga for relaxing and calming down. I also run and weight train.

Q: What healthy eating habits do you follow?

A: I eat healthy all week. Friday is McDonald’s Day. I get a grilled chicken sandwich with mustard and treat myself to french fries. I drink a lot of water during the day. In winter, I drink a large cup of green tea everyday.
