Denise Richards says an email purported to be from her to ex Charlie Sheen’s now-fiancee Brooke Mueller asking for his sperm donation is “not legitimate.”

“It's a doctored e-mail,” she said on the Today show Wednesday when asked about the e-mail, which came to light during her divorce battle with Sheen. “I would never send an e-mail to [Mueller], and, at the time of that e-mail, I was with [Richie Sambora]. If I wanted anybody’s sperm, I’d have asked for Richie’s,” she said. Sheen said in a statement to Today that Richards’ claims are “absurd.”

“The mere fact the she continues to publicly discuss and harass both Brooke and me three years after our separation which, for the record is longer than the actual length of the marriage, is beyond desperate and speaks volumes,” he said. Sheen added: “I will no longer sit back and be egregiously painted as a liar. If any proof can be established that these are not in fact her words and statements verbatim, I openly invite her and would even encourage Ms. Richards to sue me in a court of law.”

On Tuesday, Richards also blamed the media for her breakup with Sambora, saying they suggested she came between the musician and his ex-wife, Heather Locklear. “They (Sambora and Locklear) were getting divorced; he and I were friends and it happened,” Richards told Larry King. “And she had moved on. She was already involved with someone else at the time. It (the press coverage) affected, I think, the circumstances. It was very difficult to sustain a relationship. We were so slammed in the press ... but I did not split up their marriage.”
