Crime, of course, is an issue in the heart of the city and candidates will certainly have to respond to questions on safety on the streets and walkable communities in the city’s core.

Downtown revitalization and the potential arena district are also key issues for Ward 6 voters.

Jane Batty is once again vying for the seat on council.

Batty was first elected to council in 2001 and is seeking her fourth term.

Challenger Cris Basualdo has more than 15 years of community service and her core platform issues include a desire to create a vibrant, desirable and walkable city core.

James Johnson has volunteered on several previous federal campaigns, but the 27-year-old is a relative newcomer to civic politics.

Bryan Kapitza hopes to create civic policies that help to rejuvenate the city’s mature neighbourhoods.

Adil Pirbhai made his first attempt at council back in 1995.

Carla Frost, Lee Permann and Thomas Roberts round out the list of candidates.
