It’s a bad time for a heat wave for the Saint Mary’s Huskies football team.

With temperatures rising past 30 C this week, the Huskies — who opened training camp on Saturday and are on the field twice a day — are mindful of the high risk for heat stroke and dehydration.

“It’s been bloody hot,” said Huskies head coach Steve Sumarah. “It’s scary, but we have to live with it and try and get as much work done as we can.”

Sumarah said he has shortened his practices, stayed in the shade and made sure his players are drinking plenty of water.
