The Mounties say they haven’t be able to figure out how a loaded rocket launcher ended up along a road on Vancouver Island, just north of Victoria.

A crew trimming trees discovered the weapon on Oct. 28 along Malahat Drive, near Shawnigan Lake.

The RCMP say an investigation by police and the military found the last record of the launcher was in the defence department's inventory in Ottawa in 1976.

Police say it’s a mystery when or how the weapon was moved across the country and why it was left on the side of the road.
