The nameless little tiger cub at the Calgary Zoo has finally clawed his way out of the den, and Metro readers have the exclusive chance to help name the new feline.
The Siberian tiger cub is three-and-a-half-months-old and until last weekend his 12-year-old mother Kita hadn’t been letting him out of her sight.
But Calgary Zoo visitors can now meet the little guy, and Metro readers can go online to choose one of four names for the cub selected by keepers at the zoo.
Bill Dubreuil, one of the zoo’s curators and a tiger cub handler, said the cub is still pretty tied to his mother but is starting to explore more and notice visitors watching him.
“He has a lot of interest and he’s in his exploratory phase. He’s starting to become more aware of his surroundings, but he still gets startled easy and runs to mom,” Dubreuil said.
The cub’s handlers have chosen four possible names Metro readers can choose from online at www.metronews.ca under the contests link. One vote per family, please.
“I’m pretty curious and excited to see which name Calgarians like the most,” Dubreuil said.
The contest begins today and runs until midnight, Sunday, July 15. Those choosing the name that garners the most votes will be entered into a draw for some fabulous prizes, courtesy of the Calgary Zoo.
First prize will be a behind-the-scenes visit with the tigers for four people, second prize is a year-long family membership for the Calgary Zoo, and third prize takes home a pack of family day passes (two adults, two children).
