Helping hands for the homeless

Operation Triple H is underway. Its mission: To deliver wooly warmth to those most in need this holiday season.

Operation Triple H is underway. Its mission: To deliver wooly warmth to those most in need this holiday season.

Organized by Vancouver native Victoria Risario, the group of friends set its sights on collecting as many coats, sweaters, mitts, scarves, toques and other cold-weather gear as it could muster.

“Our goal was to create 75 care packages … for the homeless,” said Risario, who thought up the idea because she wanted to do something special for the homeless on Christmas Eve.

The group’s members chose to seek out items of clothing in part because many people are still suffering economic woes, but also because they “wanted to personally be part of the charitable drive,” said Amanda Langstroth, a fellow organizer.

Triple H will head into Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside tomorrow evening and hand out bottles of water, granola bars and bags of clothing to any homeless people they meet until the donations run out.
