Ania Verrey and Whitney Gittens-Becker of Have a L’iL Heart are raising money for the cardiac unit at the Children’s Hospital with a Valentine’s Day fundraiser.

Two local women are asking Calgarians to have a little heart this Valentine’s Day by throwing a charity fundraiser for heart awareness month.

Enterprising 26-year-old Ania Verrey and her co-organizer Whitney Gittens-Becker came up with the idea when a friend’s baby was diagnosed with a heart problem.

"It’s heart month in Calgary and then a friend had a baby that will need to have heart surgery before it can even walk, so I thought this was just a good way to give back," Verrey told Metro.

A Valentine’s fundraiser called "Have a L’iL Heart" will have a prom theme for the night in which all proceeds will go to the cardiac unit at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

"I just thought it would be a fun way for people to get into the spirit and give back to the community," Verrey said.

Tickets for the Valentine’s Prom fundraiser are $5 at the door and there will also be prom photos taken at the back of the venue for $5.

"It’s just fun for people to get dressed up and come out and show some support," Verrey said, adding she’d like to raise around $1,000.

The event takes place tomorrow night at the Eagle located at 424A 8 Ave. SE starting at 8:30 p.m.
