Halifax Mooseheads 2009 draft choice Kody Orr of Lower Sackville is recovering at his home after being involved in a serious car accident in Ingramport Wednesday.

Orr, 16, was a passenger in the car that left the road, rolled and hit a tree on St. Margaret’s Bay Road near noon.

“We’re lucky to be alive,” said Orr, who played last season with the Amherst Ramblers of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League. “I don’t remember much from the crash. I remember us going off the shoulder of the road and flipping. The next thing I remember is waking up when the paramedics were putting me in the ambulance.”

Orr and his friends were on their way to Queensland Beach when the car dropped off the shoulder of the road.

Orr was knocked unconscious by the crash and thinks he was out for about 30 minutes. Fire crews had to cut him out of the car after his legs were trapped in the wreckage. His girlfriend was ejected from the vehicle.

The 16-year-old driver of the car suffered serious injuries while Orr was treated and released from hospital. His girlfriend suffered serious injuries and remains in hospital. A fourth person in the vehicle was not injured.

12th-round pick
Kody Orr was selected by the Halifax Mooseheads in the 12th and final round at the 2009 QMJHL draft in Moncton last month.
