Tell Billy about your faves, moods
This time last year I ran a contest to find reader’s favourite inexpensive reds and whites. It proved to be a popular winter activity. Some even admitted to having a few two-bottle evenings.
For the next month I’m going to repeat the contest. Starting today, I’m suggesting a good value red and white and ask that you vote and keep track of your favourites. Those who send in their comments (about one or both of the wines) every week will receive a free copy of my annual wine buying guide, ‘Billy’s Best Bottles Wines for 2007.’ Please e-mail your comments along with details of the setting/mood in which you had the wine to info@billysbestbottles.com.
Let’s start with a red that could get lots of votes. Vila Regia is a new-style Portuguese red — lighter, livelier and more crowdpleasing than the wines of old. But it’s still a little rustic, and very real. Feels right with almost any food and winter evenings.
The south of France is not known for white wines but La Vieille Ferme could change that. It’s a tasty, anytime sipper. Very friendly, very social. Looking forward to your e-mails!
