OTTAWA – Highlights from Auditor General Sheila Fraser’s fall report to Parliament, released Tuesday:
-Public Safety Department unable to respond effectively to national emergencies such as pandemics.
-Health Canada unable to force recall of lead-laden children’s jewelry.
-Officials fail to identify skilled jobs Canada needs when selecting immigrants.
-Hundreds of key tax rulings fail to find their way into legislation, creating confusion.
-Federal eHealth initiative gets generally positive prognosis, though some contracting problems remain.
-National Defence takes too many short cuts in getting military vehicles to soldiers in Afghanistan.
-Indian Affairs not properly monitoring environmental problems on reserves.
