Julie Tran said she has had a hard time even finding a part-time job.
Tran, 20, has applied to about 10 places in the last two weeks in sales or retail jobs, but has now started to expand her options.
“I thought I’d get into the restaurant industry because they are always hiring for waitressing, but apparently not,” said Tran, who was at the Youth Employment Centre yesterday.
The Centre is holding its 11th annual Summer Hiring Fair to help youth land a job.
“There is a lot more competition in the market right now especially for positions for young people,” said Lisa Wieser, community relations liaison for the Youth Employment Centre.
“There is still a lot of opportunity that youth can take advantage of,” said Wieser.
The fair will allow youth the opportunity to network with more than 75 employers and runs from 1:30 to 6 p.m. at the Big Four Building.
