History stacked against X-Men for weekend game

The St. Francis Xavier X-Men were happy they beat the Saint Mary’s Huskies back in Week 1.
But after reviewing the game tape, they aren’t impressed with how they did it.

“Not very well,” said X-Men running back James Green, when asked how he throught his team played in Week 1.

“We had a lot of new guys and a new offence. We got the job done, but in the end we weren’t satisfied with how we played.”

The X-Men, who opened the Atlantic University Sport football season on a five-game winning streak before losing at home on Saturday to the Bishop’s Gaiters, say they need to be better when they visit the Huskies on Friday at 7 p.m.

The Huskies have beaten the X-Men 13 straight times at Huskies Stadium since 2001.

The X-Men’s only victories in that stretch — five of them — came in Antigonish. If the X-Men want to win their first AUS title since 1996, beating the Huskies on their own turf will be key.

“I expect a big crowd,” said Green, a Halifax native.

“It’s always fun to go to Halifax to play a night game. We (haven’t won there) but hopefully this time around will be different.”
