H&M brings Lanvin to the public

As the release date for the Lanvin for H&M collection draws nearer, the Swedish chain reveals more details about what is shaping up to be fashion’s most anticipated high/low collaboration yet.

Based on the looks revealed so far, shoppers can expect a greatest hits type collection of the house’s trademark, thoroughly modern statement dresses, bold cocktail jewelry, and embellished handbags at affordable prices.

Lanvin creative director Alber Elbaz believes that these types of partnerships are the future of fashion.

“I love the idea of H&M going luxury rather than Lanvin going public,” he says in a press statement provided by H&M.

“It’s about extremes: very high and very low. It’s not about bridges; they are the first to collapse,” he adds.

It’s hard to believe this is all coming from the same man who just last year told The New Yorker magazine that he wouldn’t design a lower-priced line to complement Lanvin.

“I have a problem to do a collection that is a secondary line. I mean, you don’t want to be the stepsister. You want to be Cinderella. Show me one girl who wants to be the stepsister,” he said.

So does the H&M line reveal an overall change of mind?

Fingers crossed that it does. In the meantime, shoppers will at least have Nov. 20, the day it all hits stores in Toronto and Vancouver, to look forward to.
