Christmas shopper Autumn Lancaster tries to cram in all of the festive shopping she can before heading home to British Columbia for the holidays.

You have seven days… and counting.

Retail stores across Calgary are bustling with holiday shoppers battling it out at the tills in malls to finish up their holiday shopping for loved ones.

Chinook Centre SportChek manager Adam Woods told Metro this past weekend was the busiest weekend of the year to date, but he expects the upcoming weekend will be even busier.

“It’s been very busy and this week will be even busier. It’s also the last weekend of shopping before Christmas. It’s like every day is a Saturday right now,” he said.

Southcentre Mall has also been very busy with shoppers and spokesperson Krista Moroz said each day gets busier.

“A lot of people are last-minute shopping. There are a lot of people who procrastinate and so while we are really busy right now, this coming weekend will be the busiest time,” she said.

However, Chinook Centre communications manager Peggy Lim said Calgary’s largest mall has seen a lot more early shoppers than last-minute shoppers this year.

“We noticed this year there were a lot more people shopping early than last year. We saw people starting earlier in November and then it kind of dropped off in December. But now it’s starting to pick up again with the last-minute shoppers.”
