A man was set ablaze while he slept outside after a night of drinking on Commercial Drive.
The 26-year-old New Westminster man suffered minor burns to his chest and wrist in the attack that occurred around 11:40 p.m. Saturday.
According to Vancouver police, the man spotted a couch on the sidewalk near Fifth Avenue and Commercial Drive and decided to lay down.
A while later, a witness spotted three men standing over the sleeping man. One sprayed him with some sort of fluid and then set it afire.
The witness ran to help and got into a fight with the three men.
A second person heard the kerfuffle and ran over to assist.
The three attackers ran off and the 26-year-old was taken to hospital.
The attackers are described as white males, between the ages of 25 and 40, dressed in black and sporting tattoos and piercings.
