Hometown heroes return with gold

Our hometown hockey heroes made their triumphant arrival at the Calgary Airport yesterday tired, but still elated from their fifth straight gold-medal win for Team Canada.

Monday night’s game at the World Juniors held in Ottawa ended with a 5-1 victory over Sweden.

Austin Norlin, 10, and Carson Trimble, 9, showed up to catch a glimpse of their Team Canada hero: Team captain Thomas Hickey.

“It was awesome,” said Trimble of the winning game. “Especially when the Swedish goalie got hit.”

Both boys lucked out when Hickey was more than willing to meet them and provide autographs to fans.

Though he couldn’t pinpoint a lasting memory yet, Hickey said when he looks back on this in a few years, “it’ll probably be the best experience we’ve ever had.”
