Another journey has ended for an inspiring young singer, and that means another week closer to the finale.
With only eight competitors left standing in the singing competition to become the next American Idol, we’re only about six short weeks from crowning yet another pop star who may or may not last in today’s fickle and highly competitive music business.
Yes, it’s difficult to make it to the end of a contest of this calibre, but the real journey starts the minute they sign their life away to their new record company. The question is, who of these hopefuls has what it takes to make it to the end?
Continuing with the week’s Dolly Parton theme, the competitors opened up the show singing the infamous 9 To 5. Following that song and dance routine, the first few contestants to get the good news of being safe were Michael Johns, David Archuleta and Carly Smithson.
In between the announcement of the voting results cast following Tuesday’s performance show, The Clark Brothers made a special appearance singing This Little Light of Mine.
David Cook, Syesha Mercado and Jason Castro all made their way to the couch where their other three friends who would be returning next week also sat.
With that, last night’s bottom three consisted of three women — Ramiele Malubay, Kristy Lee Cook and Brooke White.
“I think this is absolutely right. I watched clips of the show back for different reasons, I don’t think anyone from over there should be standing where these girls are,” said judge Simon Cowell about the three ladies who garnered the least number of votes this week.
Grammy Award-winning country music star Parton also took to the stage, singing her song Jesus And Gravity.
“I was so honoured that they did my songs,” said Parton.
Finally it was time to get down to business. White was the next one announced as safe, as was Cook, meaning this time it was Malubay who was eliminated from the singing competition.
Hopefuls shine light on Parton
