Porsche’s best-selling model, the Cayenne SUV, has never been eco-friendly before. Now the Cayenne S Hybrid is the cleanest Porsche there is.
It runs on electric power only up to 60 km/h and uses the electric motor to boost the 3.0-litre, V6 engine under hard acceleration.
But its “sailing mode” is its cleverest trick.
At speeds of up to 156 km/h — when the engine is on overrun — the engine is disengaged from the drivetrain so the car can coast along without using power at all, saving fuel and reducing emissions.
