A house under renovation in the city’s east end partially collapsed Thursday afternoon and left the immediate area blocked off from traffic.

The basement of the house located on 477 Scarborough Rd. was being excavated but subcontractors were not on scene when the collapse occurred, Toronto Fire platoon chief Dan MacIsaac said.

The incident occurred just before 1:30 p.m.

Police said there were no injuries and no damage to surrounding property.

Const. Tony Vella of the Toronto police said there may be traffic delays on nearby Gerrard Street East and Victoria Park Avenue.

Police could not confirm how long the immediate area would be blocked off.

There were also reports of a strong gas smell, but the fire department confirmed there was no gas leak.

MacIsaac said the gas line to the house was turned off at around 2:30 p.m.
