“Planking” claimed its first official victim this week, but it has already claimed scores more of unofficial victims. Namely, anyone who has ever tried it!
For the unaware, “planking” is an Internet fad in which participants pose for photos while lying down and attempting to make their bodies as rigid as possible (like a plank of wood.) The fad has been in the news this week due to the sad story of Australian Acton Beale, who fell to his death on Sunday after attempting a dangerous pose on a seventh-story balcony.
How stupid is planking? Very stupid, obviously! OK, it was probably funny at first, with the sheer novelty of seeing someone make their body look like a board. But honestly, once you’ve seen one plank, you’ve seen them all.
