“My favourite is Argentina,” said Pat Nearing, head coach of Dalhousie Tigers men’s soccer team. He cites their depth and the fact their head coach, Diego Maradona, is such a star that he can deflect heat from his players.

“I’m going for Germany,” said Mike Hudson, executive director of Soccer Nova Scotia. “They’ve won in 1954, 1970, and 1990, which is about every 20 years, so they’re due.”

Local soccer star Mary-Beth Bowie is hoping for England to triumph, but thinks Argentina is the favourite.
