The average bride will spend more than 200 hours planning her wedding, according to Maria Kangarloo from Sentimental Flowers.
“Every time they go look for a dress and each time they meet with a DJ, florists or bakers, it takes a couple of hours, including travel time,” she said.
A fairly simple wedding in Ottawa will cost about $100 per guest, so it’s very important to set a budget and stick to it, said Kangarloo.
There is a lot of temptation to do a lot of neat things at a wedding, but that’s a fast way to blow the budget, said Iriene Sedarous, a planner with A Merry Event. Even the guest list has to be capped at some point.
“It’s not just about food. It’s about decor, and centrepieces, and chair covers, those many things add up,” she said.
“Make the right list from the beginning.”
