Hundreds of parkers dinged $50 a pop

It seems the message to not park on the street overnight isn’t getting across to some people.

It seems the message to not park on the street overnight isn’t getting across to some people.

Through Sunday, close to 800 tickets have been issued since HRM’s overnight winter parking ban took effect on Dec. 15.

The exact figure released yesterday is 795 — at $50 per ticket — sees at least $39,750 going to HRM coffers since the ban went into effect.

The fine jumps to $82.96 if the ticket isn’t paid within 60 days.

The municipality said last week about 200 tickets were given out on the ban’s first night.

Under the ban, any vehicle left on the street in the urban core between 1 a.m. to 7 a.m. could be hit with a ticket.
