Hundreds show up for United Way

Hundreds of Calgarians hit the streets yesterday in support of the United Way.

To kick off the 2010 fundraising campaign, several businesses, families and individuals walked through downtown to Eau Claire Market.

Campaign co-chair Marie Delorme said she was thrilled to see the crowd turn up despite the rain.

“It feels absolutely wonderful and it’s not surprising,” said Delorme.

“Calgarians always come together when they’re needed.”

The United Way’s fundraising campaign runs from September to the end of December and the organization is looking to raise $51 million.

“The hopes are that Calgarians will rally and come together in a united way to make this city stronger.”
