Huskies hockey squad off to hot start

The Saint Mary's Huskies are off to a 2-0 start after defeating theAcadia Axemen 7-3 in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action lastnight at the Forum.

The Saint Mary's Huskies are off to a 2-0 start after defeating the Acadia Axemen 7-3 in Atlantic University Sport men's hockey action last night at the Forum.

Rookie Brad Smith potted two goals for the defending AUS champions.

Marc Rancourt, David MacDonald, Cam Fergus and Andrew Hotham each collected a goal and two helpers and Justin Munden added a single.

Huskies goaltender Brandon Verge turned aside 21 shots. Saint Mary's, ranked fifth in the country, is now tied for first in the AUS with the nationally-No. 1-ranked New Brunswick Varsity Reds, who are also 2-0.

The Huskies host the V-Reds on Saturday at 7 p.m. and the P.E.I. Panthers the next day at 3:30 p.m.
