Huskies hooptsers riding hot streak

The Saint Mary’s Huskies men’s basketball team is coming on strong, with five wins in its past six games.

The Huskies earned a pair of home wins on the weekend, beating the Cape Breton Capers 69-65 on Friday and the P.E.I. Panthers 113-111 in overtime on Saturday to climb into a tie for second in the Atlantic University Sport standings.

Mark McLaughlin piled up 43 points and Joey Haywood added 41 to help the Huskies improve to 7-3.

The Dalhousie Tigers, meanwhile, split on the weekend, beating P.E.I. 77-61 and losing to Cape Breton 65-57.

They also have a 7-3 record and are tied with the Huskies.

The St. Francis Xavier X-Men (9-1) are first.

In women’s play, Dal (7-3) stretched its winning streak to seven games with wins over P.E.I. and Cape Breton.
