The Saint Mary’s Huskies earned an opening-weekend split against the nationally-seventh-ranked Cape Breton Capers as the Atlantic University Sport men’s basketball season got underway.

The Huskies bounced back from a 94-82 loss on Friday and earned a 80-75 victory, getting a 23-point, seven-assist effort from sophomore point guard Joey Haywood.

The Dalhousie Tigers, meanwhile, dumped the UNB Varsity Reds in Fredericton, N.B., 82-66 on Friday.

In women’s action, Dal lost 80-60 to the V-Reds while the Huskies were swept by the defending champion Capers.
