Huskies sweep Sea Dogs in semis

The Rouyn-Noranda Huskies were the best team in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League regular season, and as it turns out, nobody can stop them in the playoffs, either.

The Huskies won their 15th straight game and their 12th consecutive playoff contest with a 5-4 victory over the host Saint John Sea Dogs last night at Harbour Station.

The win gives the Huskies a four-game sweep in the QMJHL best-of-seven semifinal, putting them in the final against the winner of the Halifax Mooseheads-Gatineau Olympiques series.

Yannick Riendeau scored the winner with 7:42 left and Jeff Desjardins had two goals and an assist. Tangier’s Tyler Hawes had a goal and an assist, while Howie Centre’s Brett Morrison had an assist and won 15 of 21 faceoffs.

Glace Bay’s Jarrad Struthers is also on the Huskies roster.

North Sydney’s Michael Kirkpatrick, one of seven Nova Scotians playing for the Sea Dogs, scored in the loss.
