‘I’m not going to worry’: Ford

Mayoral candidate Rob Ford reacted diplomatically to news that Sarah Thomson is bowing out of the race and supporting George Smitherman to block Ford from becoming mayor.

Mayoral candidate Rob Ford reacted diplomatically to news that Sarah Thomson is bowing out of the race and supporting George Smitherman to block Ford from becoming mayor.

“I wish Ms. Thomson all the success in her future endeavours,” Ford told reporters after describing his budget plan yesterday in a speech to the Empire Club of Canada.

Ford ducked when asked if he thinks Thomson supporters will follow her wishes and end up voting for Smitherman.

“You know what, that’s up to the people of the city. I think people know who can put an end to the wasteful spending at city hall and stop the gravy train. And Rob Ford will do that.”

Ford said he’s focused on his front-running campaign.

“I’m not going to worry about her campaign or anyone else’s,” he said. “I just know Rob Ford’s campaign is doing very well.”

In rolling out his financial strategy, Ford added a new wrinkle by promising to set up an “emergency relief fund” to help people like those forced out of their Wellesley Street apartments by a fire.
