Idol auditions hit Alberta

It seems to be a battle of Alberta as Canadian Idol launched last weekend in Edmonton before heading to Calgary this weekend, the first time in Idol’s history that both Alberta cities have held auditions in the same season.

Almost 1,000 musicians auditioned at the West Edmonton Mall for a shot at a spot on the sixth season of the show.

In total, only 11 singers struck gold with the judges, getting a chance to head to Toronto to compete in the next round.

Sass Jordan, who is returning as a judge for Season 6, said the Edmonton singers were definitely memorable.

“While they almost froze waiting to see us, most thawed in time to lay down some great entertainment,” she said, adding one gold ticket winner’s audition was a series highlight for her as a musician and music fan.

As the tour heads south to Calgary this weekend, the judges are looking forward to seeing which Alberta city will provide more talent for the 2008 season of Canadian Idol.
