Illness forces closure of hospital floor

COLINGWOOD, Ont. – An outbreak of a gastrointestinal illness on the medical floor at Collingwood General And Marine Hospital has spread, and the floor has been closed to visitors.

The outbreak was declared last Thursday and the hospital has found more patients with symptoms.

Hospital spokeswoman Loretta Urban-Kew says efforts to contain the illness include increased cleaning, isolating patients with symptoms and diligent hand hygiene,

Adults will still be able to visit palliative patients on the medical floor.

Visitation throughout the rest of the hospital remains unchanged, but all visitors must use the hand sanitizer upon entering and leaving the building, a patient’s room and the medical unit.
