Impact of bigger city in spotlight

An urban Ottawa city councillor is hosting a public forum tonight to discuss the impacts that amalgamation has had.

Capital Ward Coun. Clive Doucet will moderate the discussion in council chambers starting at 7 p.m. Jim McKenzie, director of the Carleton Landowners’ Association, will be one of the panelists. The CLA is group of rural residents advocating for a split between the rural and urban areas of the city. Ottawa-Carleton School Board Trustees Pam Fitzgerald and Jennifer McKenzie will also be on the panel, as well as Adam Found, a member of a consulting team for two recent de-amalgamation proposals in Ontario.

Doucet recently suggested that the city consider de-amalgamation following a number of city council decisions where it appeared rural councillors voted in a block opposing urban councillors.
