Reporters were given a rare glimpse inside a half-renovated BC Place on Thursday, as PavCo construction CEO Warren Buckley led a tour of the under-construction stadium.
Currently, crews are working around the clock to install 36 masts that will one day support a new, retractable roof for Vancouver’s iconic stadium. Just more than half of the 50-metre steel support towers have been placed to date, with the remainder scheduled to be installed before year end. More than 16,000 tonnes of steel, imported from Japan and Taiwan, will be used in total, along with nearly 35 kilometres of cable.
Other notable renos being undertaken include replacing the brownish, opaque glass currently housed in the stadium’s windows with glass of a clearer, greenish tint.
