Thousands of spectators lined downtown streets yesterday to catch a glimpse of a colourful spectacle that wrapped up another successful Capital Pride yesterday.

Marking the event’s 25th year, Capital Pride was a huge success, said spokesperson Lauryn Kronick.

“We’ve had over 65 events with community partners, and they’ve all been really successful,” she said.

Pride Week has “grown immensely” over the last 25 years, said Kronick.

The parade itself was one of the biggest yet, drawing participants including local politicians, OC Transpo, students, and sports clubs.

“We’ve been participating in the parade for quite some time,” said Ottawa Police Staff Sergeant John Medeiros. “It’s about having relationships with communities and groups.”

Dressed in an English soldier’s coat and a tutu, Toronto resident Ronaldo Sucupira wouldn’t miss Capital Pride, he’s attended the last eight years.

“I love it,” he said. “It’s my favourite. People here are very, very friendly.”
