In wake of birth control recall, Plan B offers coupon

More than 1 million packs of birth control pills are being recalled by Qualitest Pharmaceuticals after a packaging error that may cause women to take the wrong dosage, increasing their risk of pregnancy.

“Select blisters were rotated 180 degrees within the card, reversing the weekly tablet orientation and making the lot number and expiry date no longer visible,” the company said in its recall statement.

The recall affects 1.4 million packages of birth control brands including:

— Cyclafem 7/7/7

— Cyclafem 1/35

— Emoquette

— Gildess FE 1.5/30

— Gildess FE 1/20

— Orsythia

— Previfem

— Tri-Previfem

Women who take these birth control pills are advised to begin using a non-hormonal contraceptive, like condoms, immediately and contact Qualitest.

Meanwhile, Plan B, an oral emergency contraceptive, is offering a $5 coupon on its website. Plan B is available without a prescription at pharmacies for women older than 17. It designed to stop an unintended pregnancy when taken within 72, but will not work if a woman is already pregnant.
