Transgender activists are calling a protest that interrupted a memorial event on Saturday “disgusting” and “inappropriate.”
A crowd of about 50 gathered at Enterprise Square on the Transgender Day of Remembrance to honour victims who met violent ends.
Midway through the memorial service, a lone protester appeared holding a sign bearing the words “God created man and woman.”
“As a transperson, you’re always looking over your shoulder, as it is,” said activist Jan Buterman, who spoke at the memorial.
“… We were honouring our dead — not the time to make a political statement.”
