This weekend, Ottawa’s Indian community is celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
A major Indian festival, Diwali symbolizes the victory of good over evil and is a time of celebration and hope for humankind.
The Hintonburg community is marking the event with the Hintonburg Economic Development Committee’s fourth annual Hintonburg Diwali Party tonight.
Held from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Somerset Square at Somerset and Wellington Streets, the party includes Pooja, a Hindu religious ceremony, music, and the lighting of sparklers. Traditional foods, including ladoo, or sweets, and pakoras will be served.
However, the event could be cancelled in case of rain.
