Indiana’s hot start

Indiana Jones may be older, but he’s still finding treasure at the box office.

Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull is the fourth film in the action-adventure series and it earned $56 million US Thursday and Friday in its first two days of release.

One analyst calls that very solid. But he says it remains to be seen if it can beat last year’s record Memorial Day weekend opening by Pirates Of The Caribbean: At World’s End. That one took in $153 million US.

The Harrison Ford-Steven Spielberg paring also needs a strong weekend finish to top this year’s biggest hit so far, Iron Man. It pulled in $98.5 million US in its first weekend.

Crystal Skull is the first Indiana Jones film in 19 years.

It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival this month to less than stellar reviews.
